It likely helped early peoples keep their necks warm and dry, according to Alan Henderson in his book Mullet Madness, a history of the look. The mullet’s practical, adaptable shape has given it centuries-long staying power. While literature’s first mullet mention may have come from the ancient Greek poet Homer-in The Iliad, he described the Abantes, a group of spearmen, as wearing “their forelocks cropped, hair grown long at the backs,”-the term “mullet” wasn’t actually coined until 1994, thanks to the Beastie Boys’ song “Mullet Head.” The Oxford English Dictionary credits the hip-hop group as the first to use “mullet” to describe the high-low cut that’s long been described as “business up front and a party in the back.” The short-long hair style, popularized in the 1980s, has a surprisingly proud history and has been sported by rebels and respected leaders alike. No matter what it’s called, there’s more to the mullet than just light beer, Camaros and Lynyrd Skynyrd. These are just a few ideas and is by no means exhaustive. The bi-level. The Bardstown area has some good distillery choices, My Old Kentucky Home and a nice little downtown area once voted the most beautiful small town in America. Louisville is a foodie town and will have good vegan options for you but I personally don’t know about them. It’s extremely popular and the most visited National Park in the country.Ĭheck this recent thread for ideas of what to do in the Louisville area: October will be very busy in that park as the leaves change. You can’t tour on your own and some schools have a Fall Break in October so best to book ahead to avoid disappointment.Ĭheck the Tennessee forums for information on the Smoky Mountain National Park and other locations in that state. October is still a busy time so make your tour reservations in advance. Overall, it was a cool experience and we are glad we went!Īnswer: Kentucky has one National Park, Mammoth Cave National Park and it would be on your route to Nashville. We were able to see it there too and it had slightly less people, although I wouldn’t call it super crowded in either spot. After you’ve seen the Moonbow but it’s still active, try heading down to the lower viewing area. There’s no great place to prop your camera to get the exposure time. If you use a DSLR you will need a tripod. ![]() I was able to capture these photos with my iPhone 13 and adjusted the settings later to show the color bands. If your iPhone is an 11 or later, night mode will automatically capture your photos (hold still). The Moonbow looks white to the naked eye. For us, it came and went based on the mist coming off the falls and if there was any cloud coverage. We were able to see the Moonbow best a little before the optimal viewing times. You can stop at the center/right side of the upper falls viewing area to see the falls, the bottom water & the Moonbow best. Your phone flashlight is all you will need for either viewing area, but you could bring a small flashlight. The park pathway to the upper falls is semi-lit (lower viewing not lit). As you walk into the falls area from the parking lot, there are bathrooms that are open on your right. We brought bug spray but didn’t find that the bugs were too bad. We got there about 1.5 hours before and didn’t have trouble getting a parking space. ![]() We were told to arrive 1 hour before the optimal viewing time starts. It seems to be a 2 hour window and these are not listed on the website and they change each night of the Moonbow. Before you go, call or find times for optimal viewing hours. ![]() Also, look at the weather to see what the cloud coverage looks like. Look up the Moonbow schedule on the website (2 days before full moon, day of full moon, 2 days after full moon). We were not staying at the park so here are some things that may be helpful since there is not a ton of specific info on the website. We went late evening for the Moonbow and it was a really amazing experience.
